From blossoms comes
this brown paper bag of peaches
we bought from the boy
at the bend in the road where we turned toward
signs painted Peaches.
From laden boughs, from hands,
from sweet fellowship in the bins,
comes nectar at the roadside, succulent
peaches we devour, dusty skin and all,
comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat.
O, to take what we love inside,
to carry within us an orchard, to eat
not only the skin, but the shade,
not only the sugar, but the days, to hold
the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into
the round jubilance of peach.
There are days we live
as if death were nowhere
in the background; from joy
to joy to joy, from wing to wing,
from blossom to blossom to
impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom.

Upcoming Vocare Workshops and Sessions
“Vocare” is latin for “calling or finding your voice”. Over the past several years, I have found my own voice by following the beckonings that come through the arts — the art I make, and the poems I love. I have been guided into an exploration of landscape on the Burren west coast of Ireland, my ancestor’s role in colonizing the Irish, and now to a reckoning with how the assumptions and ways of the colonizers lives in me still. That’s been my path, but yours will be different. I work with you to reconnect with and widen your creative communion…to interact with what can’t be summarized in sentences or words… and to find your way into your authentic voice. Contact me to book individual or group coaching sessions.
Vocare | Creativity for Deep Living
13 – 15 September 2019
Sunbury Shores, St. Andrews, New Brunsick
Listen more deeply to what life wants of you by engaging with your creative side.
- Free up your creative expression – not to have a pretty picture to hang on the wall, but to listen more deeply to inklings and signals
- Learn the basics of collage with beeswax encaustic, images and plant material
- Release yourself from the critic’s harsh eye
- Begin to “read” what has come through and may at first seem nonsensical
In the studio, you will work with the sensual and forgiving medium of encaustic beeswax and heat, or water-based paint and pencils or both. You will be collaging in paper, words and pressed flowers or weeds. In group circle, you will be moved by music, poems, silence, and you will reflect and open to what is coming through you.
